I've made a couple of errant comments, but it's no big deal to me. People will understand one or two, as long as it's not chronic.

Also, use Firefox because it has the built-in spell-check on the fly feature. It's saved me a lot, and even in this post! :)

Thanks for stopping by!

I don't mind at all that Leonid fixed my typo. But, I don't think it's something bloggers should be in the habit of doing for their commentators.

For one thing, if you have a busy blog (or a slow blog that turns into a busy one), you're not going to have time to fix all the typos and errors that people make.

The other thing, and the more important thing, is credibility. If readers begin to see that comments are edited, they may begin to wonder what exactly is being edited. Was it just a typo, or was something else deleted or changed?

I think you can reasonably edit curse words if you don't want them appearing on your blog, by replacing them with something like f***. I think you can also simply delete inappropriate posts too. But, I don't think we would want bloggers to be exercising a "line item veto" on any of our comments. ;-) Edit for curse words, delete for inappropriateness, but otherwise leave comments alone.

And, please note that none of this is directed in any way at Leonid! As I said, I don't mind that he fixed my typo, especially since I made a big deal of it.

Damn good point. If I'd left a comment on a blog that made me look foolish, full of typos or whatever, I'd feel mighty impressed if the blog author corrected my mistakes. I think it's important not to go too overboard though, or else you may end up rewriting everybody's comments as if you were following an AP style guide.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Good point. But, I bet most people aren't going to see it as spamming, unless you make a habit of it. Still, it's best not to have to re-comment in the first place.

good tip, proofreading comments is important because if you make a mistake you may have to comment again to say you messed up and some may see that as spamming, which of course is not good.

Technorati doesn't recognize 301 redirects, so it's best when you can get people to point to the new URL. I learned that in my domain switch.
