If Google feels threatened by a competitor, like Microsoft it will just by it. That's how corporations do.

I wonder if the internet was around in the 40's, would some of the conduct that goes on today be tolerated? Such as the AdSense banning thing? All they have to do is increase communication to alleviate a lot of questions. Why won't they just do the right thing? That's my pet peeve.

More than a noun, it's a lifestyle.

Good points, but corporations also sometimes reach a critical mass where they move more slowly in response to market conditions. Microsoft used to buy up software companies to continue their dominance, but then some college kids built a search engine and Microsoft finds itself in the position of underdog in the search market and threatened in the software market.

Google may buy up some of the social bookmarking sites, but still end up falling behind to a couple kids that are probably just entering high school this fall. ;-)

I think you're correct that Google has lost some of the ubiquitous nature they had a few years ago. Although I agree with Alex that it will probably be around forever, just look how quickly Google became such an integrated part of internet culture. 10 years ago, did Gates think Microsoft would be competing with such high quality free software? It could happen just as quickly today.

Maybe all these social bookmarking sites will eventually turn Google back into just another search engine. I bet a more likely option is that Google will buy all these guys and continue their dominance!

So your going to rely on your friend to help you cure your embarassing problems? Book your next holiday for you on one review or find the best prices on hairdryers?

Google isnt dead, not by a long long long long shot
