My Goal

Last month, John Chow made over $12,400 on his blog. The month before, it was over $12,500. And, in May, it was over $10,500.

There are a lot of bloggers trying to match John Chow’s example, or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof. Average Joe Blogger would like to make a full-time income working from home, as does Bryan Clark of One Man’s Goal fame. And, “One Man” would like to make $100,000 in one year.

Right now, from this blog, I am making exactly $0. Well, actually I would be in the negative if I figure in my hosting bill, and the domain name registration, and the promotional drawing I did, and some ads… But, $0 is more comforting than a negative number.

I got my first eMail address in the early 1990’s, and I have been developing websites since about 1996 or so. Maybe it was 1995? Anyway, I have had popular sites back in the day, back before the idea of monetizing sites was even heard of. People were repulsed by banner ads back then.

Back then, I had a good number of web pages in the very tops of the search engines. But, I didn’t have ads. And, no takers for ads advertising availability of ad space. But, I did have traffic. Not a lot, but decent.

Well, now that things are more competitive, I don’t have that lead anymore. Far from it. Nonetheless, you know, I think it’s high time I get my fair share, eh? So, I am going to go at it hard and give it a real good go, and hope to get some traction this time.

With that in mind, I have set a goal for myself. Not something “safe” or “reasonable” either. No, you have to dream big. Why approach Mt. Everest if you’re just going to camp out at the bottom and look up?

My goal is $300,000 by December 31, 2007. Yeah, you read me. By December 31, 2007.

That will be not with just this blog, but the combined efforts of all of my Internet ventures, both current and to come.

With less than five months to go, you ought to buy me a soda. I am going to need the caffeine!

Well, now that you answered the question about getting traffic to your blog, it should be easy, right? ;-)

Thanks for stopping by. As stuff proves successful, I’ll report what I did. Or, vice versa.

I’d have to agree with OneYearGoal. You’re pretty nuts to go from 0-300k in less than 6 months. But, I’d like to wish you luck. I hope you get there. Just like I hope Average Joe, Myself, and OneYearGoal make it there as well. Dream Big… results follow!~

I estimate I need to drive 5,000 unique visitors to my blogs and websites each day. I currently average a couple hundred, but that’s with little to no active promotion.

That’s a bold goal. But anything is possible.
Best of luck!

Thanks!

Stumble is good for a traffic burst, but the difficult part is retaining any of that traffic.

That is indeed a bold goal. But setting your goals high (and publicly) gives you motivation to reach for them.

Good Luck! I hope you make it.

I wanted to thank you for visiting my blog. I tried to email you, but your spam filter won’t let my email get through. Anyway, I hope you achieve your goal! I admire someone with enough balls to put their goal in writing and on the internet, for the whole world to see! More power to ya!

I think you’ve got a great goal to work for! Wouldn’t $300,000 be nice to have in the bank for the end of the year? I think I’ll join you in your attempt. Maybe not at the $300K level but, since I’m a new blogger, maybe at the $40K level.

Your blog is older than mine–why not try for at least $100K?

Even though I think your crazy for setting such a high goal I think you might just make it. I have know you for sometime now and can say when you set your mind to it you get it done!

Since I saw that you haven’t received anything towards your goal yet I decided to be the first to give you your first $1.00 towards your goal!

Best of luck my friend…

Phil

Thanks for commenting in my blog, that is an amazing goal but i think that to achieve great goals, you must have GREATER goals, so maybe you will not make a 300k this year, but maybe you will do a 100k, until next post, icedragon . . .

Hi Dan,
First thanks for expressing your thoughts on my blog.
Now that is a bodacious goal, but nothing is impossible, your tongue might be hanging out pursuing your goal but it will be worth it.

If I can be of any help do let me know. I have seen your comments on many blogs by now, as you get into top commentators ranks.

Good Luck

Vijay
