It Works for John Chow

I thought I did fairly well this past week. I had what I believed to be a good number of quality posts. And, my commentators seemed to agree. I don’t think any post this week got by without at least a couple comments.

Still, readership is down, and the number of RSS subscribers has gone down as well. And to think that earlier in the week I was on the verge of beating Joanne’s number of RSS readers.

Guess she gets yet another point. :-(

So, I have to wonder, what am I doing wrong?

Granted, this week I have not spent as much time networking through MyBlogLog as usual, nor have I fully gotten into BlogCatalog which I recently joined. Still, that can’t explain it all, can it?

What am I doing wrong?

Naturally, one must turn to the guru to try to unearth the elusive secret of why I am losing traffic despite increasing the quality of my posts. So, I turn to John Chow.

“John,” I say, acting as though we’re on a first name basis, “what am I doing wrong?”

I wait for an answer.

“Mr. Chow,” I say, correcting my earlier potential blunder, “what am I doing wrong?”

“Get the Official Make Money Online with John Chow dot Com ebook by subscribing to my free newsletter.”

“Thanks, already read it,” I say, imagining the wording on his blog was actually spoken aloud to me.

One must study the guru to learn from the guru, no? So, I search through his blog for the answer. What am I doing wrong? Maybe I need some Sponsored Posts to attract more readers? But, first I need readers to attract sponsored posts, no? Catch-22 here.

Perhaps I need to do more ranting on topics no one cares about? Could that be the secret?

I think probably not.

What am I doing wrong?

At last, I think I have uncovered the secret. It was so obvious. Clearly, what people really want to see, what really brings in the audience, is… drumroll, please… pictures of what the blogger eats!

Yes! That must be it! I have not been posting enough, nay any, pictures of what I eat. Idiot! Clearly a novice blogger mistake.

So, without further ado, here is what I had for lunch yesterday:

Kung Pau Chicken

Kung Pau Chicken. A great way to spice up the end of the week. Take-out, obviously. The food is great, but they have been getting skimpy on the rice for the past year or so. Isn’t that about the least expensive part of the meal?

Also, finished off the meal with Won Ton Soup. And Iced Tea. I am so culinarily-incorrect.

Sorry. No pictures of the soup. Maybe next time.

Now, I expect traffic to skyrocket! Food pictures, that must be the secret!

P.S. No blog battle this week either. Sorry!

P.P.S. Until next week, er, tomorrow… Remember to BAA! Believe. Act. Achieve.

One thing you may be doing wrong is eating food that looks like that!

Other than that, I can say that I’d say it’s about being creative and unique in the marketing efforts. The problem is that each of these takes time. I keep telling myself that I’ll have more of it in September but what’s my excuse going to be now?

I was planning on having certain projects complete before September. Argh!

I think rice is the cheapest part. I understand your frustration completely.

I agree with Lewis about things taking time (is there anything that doesn’t?), it’s all about having patience and perseverance. I think you’ve both of those qualities and have shown that you’ve got a lot to offer. It’s been an educational, amusing, and surprising journey thus far…and I have faith that there’s more to come.

I think posting pictures of what you eat everyday and trashing the restaurants you eat at will increase your traffic 10 fold. Look I’m here!

Maybe the sauerkraut and Polish sausage I had over the weekend would have been more to your liking. It was on a fancy plate too! But, I didn’t take the camera.

The food would look better if you put it on a fancy plate. Chow’s food is usually on fancy plates. Use of fancy plates has been documented to increase your adsense revenue 1%. Big bucks!!!

Plating! Yes, it is all in the presentation, isn’t it?

But, it was past our normal lunch time, and I was hungry, and we didn’t have any fancy plates at the office anyway. Maybe next time…

Note to self: Buy fancy plate.
