Did You Miss Me?

Saturday, Sunday and Monday, I was out of town and did not have any Internet access. Did you miss me while I was away?

Despite being gone, posts appeared on my blog each day, thanks to the Edit Timestamp option on WordPress, which is a tip I’ve picked up from a couple different bloggers now.

On Friday night, I composed three posts and edited the timestamp so that one would appear each day while I was away. The result is that it appears as though I am still here, writing messages, when really I was no where near my computer.

The advantage is that I didn’t miss a day of posting! The disadvantage is that I was unable to respond to comments for three days. Also, I could not visit other blogs, nor could I check all my eMail!

So, while the blog appeared to be functioning almost as though I was here, the fact is that I still have a lot of catching up to do! Plus, all the exciting stuff happened when I was away, such as winning an award and also being asked for an interview, both of which I’ll respond to properly as I catch up on things!

I’ll end this post now so that I can get some rest and start catching up with both work and the blog tomorrow, er, later today…

I too was not available for posting. You know football and all! I am going to learn and use the timestamp this weekend. As usual you’ve got the answer. Thanks :)

You’re welcome. Oh, and you’ll be hearing from me hopefully sometime this week too. I’ll have something you can practice timestamping on, maybe.

Congrats on the award! I’m gonna be outta town next week and will try to get a few articles written (I’m not as prolific as you are) to post in my absence. Hope I can do it right!

It’s easier sometimes than others to write a bunch of posts, so the timestamp can help you get over the “blogger’s blocks.”

This week is one of those weeks so far. I guess I’m still suffering from a bit of jet lag (even though I didn’t fly!). Too tired to think. Unfortunately, I don’t have any posts stored up!

In the past, when I have written several posts at a time, I just posted them all right away. Now, I plan a little better, thanks to the timestamp feature.

I’m so new to timestamp! I tried using it but it post right after I edit the timestamp!

Is your time zone the same as your WordPress host’s time zone? If not, that could be the problem.

Other than that, I’m not sure what the problem might be. I remember that it took me a couple tries to get it to work right the first time I tried it. But, I don’t remember what the problem was, so I can’t be of much help to you there!

That timestamp information is valuable. I have never used the timestamp function in order to post messages automatically. I have only used it to create the illusion that my Feminist Friday posts are always posted on Friday. Actually, they are usually posted in the wee hours of Saturday morning. I always miss the Friday night deadline by about thirty minutes.

Thanks for sharing this tip. And, congratulations for receiving your award!

Took me a bit of getting used to at first too, not just in the technical aspect of using it, but also in the mentality of using it. As I mentioned in another comment, I would simply post things as soon as I finished writing them. Why make people wait?

But, since then, I have tried to use it more consistently. Scheduling posts to appear when you are on vacation is a good use, but not it’s only one. A couple times, maybe more, when I’ve written more than one post, I’ve scheduled them to appear at different times. For one thing, it’s less for people to read at one time. For another, it can keep the blog fresh throughout the day as new content appears, as if by magic! LOL!

The potential downside of post scheduling is if your post contrasts too much with current events. For example, you may make an unfortunate joke or comment that might appear insensitive if it appears on your blog right after something similar has happened on the news!
