Work Hard, But Not in Vain

The things that pay the bills always get the most attention.

It’s all those other projects–the ones that may or may not pay some bills–that get left behind. Or, bounced around and around until they are all a jumble.

Those other projects, those that you think may have potential, cry out for attention from time to time, yet you are forced to neglect them out of necessity.

And so many of us wind up with many ideas but little time to implement them all. Thus, they all suffer.

I’ve tried to focus on one thing at a time. As I’ve mentioned previously, my current priority project is completing my eCommerce site. After that, whatever shall I do?

My current hope is to focus on something that I want to do, and something that may not necessarily be a big money maker. I’ll leave that to the eCommerce site (hopefully!!!).

These other projects grab my attention more so than some of the potential money makers. You see, something can be profitable, but can easily and quickly become tediously boring if it does not produce results right away.

Best to conquer one of the other projects, if not for wealth, then at least to maintain my sanity by having one less (imaginary!) thing wailing for my attention.

Thus, the “Show of Votes for SciFi” which, though I appreciate those who took the time to vote, was not entirely helpful due to the small sample audience and the closeness of votes.

But, “Darnella” is one I’ll probably (maybe) finish first.

After that, possibly my secret project, which I mentioned in this post. This was initially going to be a relatively easy project, but as I spent more time fleshing it out, and found that I wanted to make it better and better.

Now, I am faced with three ways of doing it.

OPTION 1: My first option which was the easiest and least expensive.

OPTION 2: More expensive. I can keep expenses down by doing even more of the work myself, but the quality will suffer.

OPTION 3: More expensive. Involves things that I cannot do myself. Okay, I could, but it would take a century for me to finish it all, if that would even be long enough!

Option 1 is still a possibility, but I’ve been giving a lot of consideration to options 2 and 3. In fact, I’ve been wanting to do one or the other. One problem is the expense, of course. Hopefully the eCommerce site will help with that! The other issue is that both involve a lot of work, and I have been flip-flopping on which would be the better way to go. I don’t want to start on one, do a bunch of work, and then decide I should have gone the other way. I’ve gone through that before, and I am loathe to repeat the mistake.

Of course, indecisiveness is also a mistake.

Such is my conundrum.

Option 3 is the story of my life.

Well.

I prioritize my projects in order to achieve my dream to travel around the world. So I am focus on what I can do to make it happen. My problem is that I have been focusing on too many things that can potentially get me there.

It actually costs me more than just focus on one thing. I have been working very hard, but I think I need to work smarter!

Dan,

You’ve just been nominated for the Nice Matters Award–though I’m afraid the badge won’t match your color scheme! (And you thought yellow was bad!) You’ll find info in my post: http://www.writersnotes.net/nice-matters-award-a-bloggers-gift/ .

Regards,
Jeanne
