I didn't have much spam in the first few months either. It was only a few weeks ago that I turned Akismet on. Previously, I was getting such a small amount of spam that I could manage it myself. I'd occasionally have a day where a spambot would hit me hard. Actually, reading my old post, I see that it was a month ago that I activated Akismet. I started my blog in July and you started yours in September, so if mine is any indication, you'll probably start getting hammered in January. On the other hand, spammers may take notice of your site by the quantity of incoming links, in which case, maybe you can expect to start getting hammered when you break 100 in Technorati.
