Dimensional Transcendence
Does anyone know of any examples of dimensional transcendence, where things are bigger on the inside than on the outside?
The most notable example is the TARDIS in Doctor Who. An episode of Star Trek: Enterprise also featured a timeship that was larger on the inside, but one of the producers of Enterprise was also, reportedly, a Doctor Who fan.
Can anyone think of any other examples? It can be from science fiction or fantasy. Of course, if you know of a real life example, I’ll take that too.

Can’t say I know of any for sure, but sometimes you see the outside of a house which seems quite small and then go in, it can sometimes seem much bigger inside. Is this any good?
Also the hollow decks on star trek can be turned into massive area in which the characters keep walking and never hit the wall that appears there when they say “Computer, end program”

I think I just found something that will work: a pocket universe. It’s been used in multiple genres and stories in TV, film and print.
For whatever reason, “pocket universe” just popped into my head and I decided to check it out on Wikipedia.
Can’t remember the details, but I suspect fractal surfaces may have something of the quality you’re looking for.
Anyway, if you think about it, illusionists play with this all the time — the endless scarf, rabbit out of the hat, etc.

I was watching SpongeBob Squarepants today with my daughter and they ran a little bumper between shows that talked about the size of Patrick Star’s living space. He’s a starfish who lives under a rock, but when they show his home, it’s anywhere from no room at all to a sprawling multi-room home. And yes, I could watch SpongeBob all day long. I’ve done it.

…In real life, I believe that people are bigger on the inside than they are on the outside. The human spirit can transcend any kind of physical limitation an individual may face, and a person’s inner strength and human dignity can certainly belie his or her small physical stature. A generous and compassionate heart that’s large enough to care for, understand, and encourage others can also far outshine any physical help we might be strong enough to give another person.
These examples may be philosophical, rather than physical; but that’s precisely why a person can be bigger on the inside than on the outside: because the human heart and the human spirit do not share the limits of the human body.
