Way, way back in '93, my wife and I took a vacation in Maui. We stayed in the Hyatt and for some reason they upgraded us to a nicer room. A WAY nicer room, with complementary champagne, a fruit basket, macadamias, chocolates on the pillows, and a concierge just for our floor.

Before or since, that was the only time I ever felt like I was getting the respect I deserved as a doc :)

It is disturbing to see societal pendulum swing to the dishonorable and ill mannered side of things. I see all the time parents allowing their children to act out in dysfunctional ways and do nothing to correct their behavior. Unfortunately home is the only place that respect and manners can be taught unless these children get sent off to boarding school and then there they will learn the hollow and shallow words of respect but won’t know how to display them in action.

That is why I think every child should spend four years serving their country and let the military break them down and then build them back up to be strong, prouder and thankful members of society.
