Thinking Thursday: What Will 10,000 Bloggers Do?
I’ve mentioned this previously, though secretively, here and here. Clearly, that date will have to be changed!
Without exposing my secret plans, here’s the basics of the thing. The tough part is that I will need 10,000 participants (or people participating multiple times). That’s going to be a challenge, seeing that I’m lucky to get 100 visitors in a day, and most days are repeat visitors.
The cost to each participant will be $3.50 (or $3.50 each time an individual “participates”, as one will be able to participate multiple times).
On a regular (probably weekly) basis, I will post a list of new participants on this blog (currently PR3, for those that are interested) along with a link to the participants’ blogs or websites. Participants will also be listed and linked under the BloggerMade tab above the header.
Mind you, I’m not selling links. The links are just a benefit of participation, so that people will get something out of it more than just a sense of satisfaction and community in participating in this project.
I could be wrong, and maybe probably am, but I think this is something that’s not been done before, or at least not the specific way I will be doing it.
On top of all that, if all 10,000 slots are filled before a specific deadline, I will also write a special viral links story that will include all of the participants. That’s right–I could be doing a story that will include up to 10,000 links!
Plus, if when all the slots sell out, and after PayPal and the IRS take their cut (so that politicians can spend the money on the Lobster Institute and building character by golfing) and after I have paid off all of my bills, I should have some money left over to set aside for the not so secret project, which I hope Mike is still anxiously awaiting participating in. Maybe not enough for Option C, but perhaps a good chunk thereof. Though I would really like to try for Option D, though the chunk of dough could be seed money for that, to get things moving anyway.
Anyway, those are my thoughts and ideas this Thursday. If it were a contest, I could promote it on some of the contest sites, but it’s not, so that’s not going to work. I’m not sure if buying a review on JohnChow.com would get me enough of the right audience for this project either, as this doesn’t really appeal to people looking to make money online. Does anyone have any ideas for how I might be able to reach a larger audience for this project?

I wouldn’t spend $500.00 on a JohnChow.com review. If you want a review, I would probably try a more relevant site(s) through reviewme.com. You also might want to try a site like smorty.com to get some cheap reviews out there.
By the way, can I make that $3.50 in payments with no interest for at least 3 months?
Actually, you’re among the select group that will get one free “spot.” But, no financing deals on any additional “spots” you may wish to purchase.
I’ll check out smorty.com. Thanks!
So I would pay $3.50 for you to list a link to my site-isn’t that still selling links, you know GBoogle doesn’t like that. Careful now.
I definitely would not buy a review from John Chow as he is very rarely the one who does them on his site any more he has delegated tht task as well.
Google doesn’t like it either. But, you know, if Google doesn’t like bloggers selling links, they can start paying better percentages on AdSense.
At any rate, I’m not selling links per se. You will pay $3.50 for each “spot” of participation, and I will list the participants, along with a link back to their sites.
So, you’re paying $3.50 to participate, and you’re just getting a link because of your participation. And, no, this isn’t a fancy link selling scheme, but rather a community project that I think will be of interest to the creative types, as well as the free market and chaos theory types.
I don’t get it- what would be paying for exactly? Is it legal?
