Blogging Fatigue

Little One and Little Too (Chihuahuas) 007

As you know from yesterday’s comments, some of my readers don’t like thinking too hard, which gave me the idea for this post.*

Anyway, did you ever think of a blog post while away from the computer, but, by the time you were actually at the computer, you just didn’t care about it anymore? You were already bored with it. Or, when you actually sat down and started typing, you realized your earlier manifesto you “wrote” in your head had been reduced to a couple sentences in actual typed form.

Thus, blogging fatigue set in.

That is my story for the day. This is not the post I was going to write. No, instead I had planned on a post on business success, and the “secret” behind successful businesses. But, by the time I was sitting in front of the computer, I realized my groundbreaking post would take no more than a couple sentences. And, that’s not the sort of thing that anyone will stumble or share with their friends.

And, that’s when you sigh, and allow blogging fatigue to take over and discourage you from doing the post at all, because you just don’t feel that into it anymore. No, now that it will take some actual work, it doesn’t seem as important or groundbreaking as it did just an hour ago.

Perhaps another day… I can always add it to my drafts!

So, how does one overcome blogging fatigue? Well, since I’ve failed to overcome it now, I’ll will instead theorize on what might help overcome it, as these are all things I probably should do or should have done, but didn’t.

Get a comfortable chair. I’ve mentioned it before, and still haven’t done it, but I think it would be easier to focus and relax and get things done if I were sitting in a comfortable chair.

Receive a big check. A nice sale, an AdSense check, etc. Money is a better motivator than potential money. You can spend all day doing things that people say will make you money, but you’re left feeling like you’re wasting your time and spinning your wheels when that money doesn’t roll in. But, when money does come in, that’s tangible. You know what you did to get it, and you just roll up your sleeves and do it some more! Hearing about other people making money just isn’t the motivator that holding a nice-sized check in your hands is.

Follow your passion. Never mind. Let’s just end that fallacy right now! We hear ad nauseam that we should all follow our passions and the money will follow. That kind of thing leads to fatigue and can kill your passion. Not everyone is lucky enough to make money doing what they love. Sometimes, when you try to follow your passion, it starts to be too much like work, and it ceases to be a passion anymore. Other times, you need to do a real job to be able to afford to pursue your passion, because they’re isn’t a money-making scheme wrapped around every passion. If it were so easy to get rich following your passion, most people would be rich and happy. Are they? (For more, give “Money Doesn’t Always Follow Your Passion” a read. Thanks!)

When in doubt, just post photos. It’s also helpful to have a digital camera, otherwise you’re just going to be spending lots of money getting your photos developed. I’d never have taken as many photos I do if I had to pay to have them developed all the time. Photography used to be a luxury. You usually took photos sparingly. Now, there’s no excuse not to take the shot! (Just make sure you have a large enough memory card. 24 photos used to be a lot back in the day when you had to pay to get them developed; now, 24 photos is like nothing.)

This is the point where I should have a nice wrap-up. But, blogging fatigue… remember?

*Actually, it didn’t, but that made for a nice segue.

I’m thinking you are making good money with your adsense ads lately-
if you are talking about big checks…
You have an ad down the page for sugerdaddies and you know even though
I am married I have to click on that one… with the economy being so bad,
indecent proposal doesn’t sound so indecent. Eating mac n cheese and
hot dogs three days a week is indecent.
I’ll let you know how the suggerdaddy thing went…

I know your husband blogs–and probably reads the blogs you comment on–so I bet you’re just trying to make him jealous. It’ll be pizza this Friday!

Crap Dan- it’s all your fault, my Mom just got on my blog right now
and I just published a post on your used panty selling business.
She asks me about eBay every night, I know she is going to call me
tonight to see - if I am selling old drawers on eBay.

“NO Mother I am not that broke.”
“No it’s just a joke really…”
“Nah - I don’t think people sell dirty underwear on eBay, at least I have never seen it.”

Well, no one is currently selling used underwear on Ebay, but that could change.

My favorite way to alleviate blogging fatigue is by taking a week off, which I just did! I don’t offer any explanations or apologies, I just go away…haha:)
