building personal branding should start with the value that we bring to others. Sometimes we have to kind of forget about ourselves. That is the one that people will search, something that can feed their ego, as you said, people always think that they are the centre of universe. 

I guess the site in a way argue that people can find you through your past affiliates, such as old school or working place. It's a shortcut to be found in the internet also. Too bad, I won't have a lot of frens from my country signing up... those are quite useless for me. These sites can be useful only if lots of people signing up.
