You’re All Outta Here! Sorta.
Continuing to follow up on Michael Kwan’s recommendations in his review of my blog, I have done away with the Photo Blogs links and the Hot Blogs links in my sidebar. No more links for you!
Well, not entirely. I didn’t want to completely drop everyone, so instead I made it more interesting.
Right under the Featured Sites in the sidebar, you now see a Hot Blogs! listing. Everyone previously listed in my sidebar is now there, except only one at a time will display.
Everyone still gets a link, but they don’t get it all the time. But, the trade-off is that it is in a more prominent position.
So, we’ll see how this works out. I wonder if Michael Kwan would approve, as both a reviewer and a listee?

Great idea! I like the idea of a hot blog—as long as I’m the hot one, that is. No, seriously, I think it’s good to highlight a blog in this way.
I was first thinking of a way to link it to whoever had the most recent blog post or something, but that was beyond my programming expertise. Or, at least it was beyond the amount of time I wanted to spend on it.
I like this idea as well, so how do you get one to appear at a time? Is it a rotating plugin? Please do tell!
It’s just a simple script I wrote. I might be able to write it as a plugin if there’s any interest in that.
I would like to see this as a plugin, and would definitely use it.
I’ll give it a try. So far, I’ve checked out a tutorial website, but the sample code doesn’t even work! Geesh!
I’m with Debo on this - I’d use this plugin for sure. Too bad you didn’t come up with this sooner. Wordpress just ran a plugin competition.

That’s a nice tradeoff, I’d say. I was thinking of doing something similar on my blog, but in a bigger scale. Like replacing my blogroll with a list of only 5 blogs (on a rotating basis).
Need a plugin?
Thanks for keeping me as a hot blog, but I don’t care for the one at a time display. I found your blog, and most others from someones blogroll. I think a blogroll is one of the best ways of networking, and finding other blogs. If you only show one at a time, my chances of networking will be reduced on your site. :o(
What about a “click for more” link or 5 at a time (as Michael suggested) or even a combination?
Maybe version .1 would be just the rotator and then version .2 would add on the link or even allow the administrator to set the number of blogs that are displayed. Dude, you have to write this plugin.

I’d rather see the whole hot blogroll again. It’s harder for people to see me, and harder for me to find other blogs this way. In general harder to network. That’s my 2 cents.
