How Not Using Turn Signals Raises Gas Prices
So, there I am at the corner, with my turn signal on, waiting to turn. There is a car speeding down the road, and I don’t have time to safely make the turn before it reaches me. So, I wait. All the while, of course, the engine is idling, consuming fuel.
Then, the car turns. If they had indicated they were going to be turning, I could have turned and been on my way. If only there was a way they could have done that…
Oh, yes, they could have used a turn signal. You know, I think those come built-in on most cars these days. I don’t even think you have to pay extra for them. Standard equipment, I believe.
So, instead I sat there idling, wasting gas. And, given the amount of drivers these days that don’t seem to know how to turn on their turn signals, I imagine there are lots of cars out there idling, waiting for another car to pass them by, only to have them turn out of the way anyway. I know today wasn’t the first time I’ve experienced this!
Millions of drivers, probably hundreds of thousands or more of them not using turn signals, and that’s a lot of gas being burned up while cars idle, waiting to turn.
And, that means those drivers need to refuel more often, which increases demand for gasoline, which raises prices.
Ergo, not using turn signals raises gas prices.
So, drivers who don’t use their turn signals are not only being lazy, they are also causing gas prices to go up.
Perhaps instead of trying to make their monthly quota of ticketing people who choose not to wear a seatbelt, the police should bust people not using turn signals.
What say you?

Oh, that totally burns me up. I hate when people don’t use turn signals! I always think, “Hey - guess what? They’re not there just to decorate your steering column. USE THEM!” I also then go on to think a bunch of curses at whomever the offending party is but I’ll spare your comments area from that filth.
I generally wait to make sure the person is really turning. I don’t want to get plowed into by someone who has had their turn signal on since they turned over three blocks ago.
I didn’t start driving until I was 23 years old- so I am still really new to the rules of the road. ;0P
