Sunday: Plugin Status Report

I have achieved a minimal amount of integration with WordPress and my plugin. By that, I mean I can take a count of how many “Hot Blogs” are defined in your blogroll.

Basically, how it works is this: You choose a category (or create a new one) for your blogroll that will be your “Hot Blogs” category. You then enter new links, or put existing links into this category, and those would be the links that the plugin will display in your sidebar. You also have to set those links to not be visible. I have not yet been able to filter those selections out of the results. Oh, I have tried, but none of my attempts have been successful.

But, the only thing I have managed to be able to do is to take a count of the number of blogs you put in that category. I haven’t been able to get it to actually extract any other data from there, such as blog name and URL.

I do have an area in the plugin code that makes it quite easy for the user to go in and set values, such as the number of blogs to display. Of course, the better way would be to do that from the Admin interface and not the code itself, but that’s something that may have to wait until version 2.0.

And, since I have been unable to successfully get data from the blogroll, all links have to be hardcoded into the code. If not for that, I could release this as a beta version. I just don’t think people will want to hard code links into the plugin code.

I think, though, I have just found something that will help me figure out how to hook into the database…

But, first, dinner…
