Blast from the Past: Mix Tape B1
Yesterday, I did the “Hit by the Tearjerker Song Meme” that Teeni tagged me with. I posted 36 songs instead of just one.
That got me thinking. You know, way back when nobody had heard of the Internet, we made mix tapes. Like the Internet, record companies hated them because they were so worried they were losing money, even though many of us owned the albums we made the mix tapes from!
People usually think of mix tapes as something they put together and give to their special someone, but we also made our own mix tapes of songs we liked and in the order we liked them. Maybe we’ll do a moody song and follow it up with something lighter. And, we could skip over all the songs on an album that they put there for filler that no one really listens to. Ever.
We also had mix tapes we might listen to at work, or for studying, etc. Mix tapes aren’t just for lovers!
So, I dug out my dusty box of mix tapes, which luckily are more accessible due to some cleaning a few weeks back. Here is what I had on mix tape B1. As always, I try to find official videos where possible and link to those.
SIDE A
“Electric Youth” - Debbie Gibson
“Fab” - George Harrison
“Imagine” - John Lennon
“Bye Bye Love” - The Everly Brothers
“Don’t Worry, Be Happy” - Bobby McFerrin
“And I Love Her” - The Beatles
“Hands to Heaven” - Breathe
“Do You Love Me?” - The Contours
“Got My Mind Set on You” - George Harrison*
SIDE B
“Don’t Lose My Number” - Phil Collins
“She’s Like the Wind” - Patrick Swayze
“Rescue Me” - Fontella Bass
“Always on My Mind” - The Pet Shop Boys
“Electric Blue” - Icehouse
“Hazy Shade of Winter” - The Bangles
“Say You Will” - Foreigner
“Red Red Wine” - UB40
Feel free to share your memories of any of these songs in the comments.
*There were two videos released for this song. The first, which is the one in the link, features Alexis Denisof, later of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fame.

Mixtapes. Wow. Is it me or does this post look a lot like the other one with all of other songs?
Only one song is on both posts.

Don’t Worry, Be Happy, and Electric Youth were both on the other post so I have to agree with Pete here. But I think it’s a good mix tape. I’d listen to it. Hey, if you hurry, you can pull a Teeni and delete one of those songs before someone else notices. LOL.
So, 2 out of 17 are repeats. That’s under 12%. You know how Petty you and Pete sound now?

Oh sure - resort to MATH to trivialize your error. There is a statistician in you, isn’t there? LOL.
