Blast from the Past: Mix Tape B3
Perhaps I should have dubbed this “80’s Week” or something. Anyway, continuing from yesterday’s Blast from the Past, today I present Mix Tape B3. As always, I try to find official videos where possible and link to those.
Only four duplicates today, and none of them on the A side, so Pete and Teeni won’t have much reason to complain.
SIDE A
“Iko Iko” - The Belle Stars*
“Wild World” - Maxi Priest
“Perfect World” - Huey Lewis & the News
“Good Lovin’” - Bobby McFerrin
“Staying Together” - Debbie Gibson**
“This is Love” - George Harrison
“I’m Into Something Good” - Peter Noone
“Like a Prayer” - Madonna
SIDE B
“Time and Tide” - Basia
“La Isla Bonita” - Madonna***
“Danger Zone” - Kenny Loggins
“We Didn’t Start the Fire” - Billy Joel****
“Things We Said Today” - The Beatles
“Axel F” - Harold Faltermeyer
“Runaway” - Del Shannon
“Man in the Mirror” - Michael Jackson
“Only in My Dreams” - Debbie Gibson
Feel free to share your memories of any of these songs in the comments.
*I won’t tell you how many times I listened to this song over and over, because I don’t have a count. Cool song. Here, listen again. There you go, Teeni, that’s one to boost your spirits and get you moving, more so than this one.
**This song probably does not remind you of The Grapes of Wrath, but when you do your summer reading assignment while listening to a Debbie Gibson tape, that sort of thing can happen.
***This one reminds me of Latin II. We had an exchange student from Spain. Her name was Begonia. At the end of the school year, we all wrote down her address and said we’d write. (We didn’t have the Internet back then.) The next school year, nobody I talked to had actually written to her. I wonder what ever happened to her.
****I did a parody of this one called, “I Didn’t Pass Calculus.” Don’t get the wrong idea, I passed Calculus, but I wrote the lyrics with all the calculus functions and all that. Would have been a great learning aid for math students.

Is this some sort of vintage 80’s nonsense?
I should have done Amazon.com links to the CDs! Or iTunes. Something.
I should start an 80’s blog…
Okay, Iko Iko was actually pretty cool. I don’t remember it from Rain Man but I’m not good with that kind of memory. My husband is though. Anyway, it was cool but doesn’t replace C&C Dance Factory for me. I’ll add it to my dance music though.
I went to high school with a guy that everyone said looked like Tom Cruise.
Hopefully, he grew out of it.
Oh, and I thought I commented on the last mix tape post but I don’t see it there. Anyway, it was merely to point out your obvious crush on Debbie Gibson (or is it now Deborah)?
I checked, and Akismet didn’t eat your comment. Are you sure you left it?
Anyway, whatever gave you that idea? And, she goes by Deborah now.
Some of my friends in high school thought I’d marry her or something. Of course, they also thought I’d end up living in a cardboard box on the streets, so, you know.
“Anyway, it was merely to point out your obvious crush on Debbie Gibson (or is it now Deborah)? ;)”
Ha ha Oh I can deal with the crush thing on Deborah Gibson- for a minute there I thought he was trying to steal vintage from while I am down and out with sick kids. Now that I see these posts for what they are- I can step back from unleashing some serious butt kicking.. Carry on. Deborah Gibson eh- I have a crush on Little Debbie myself… and twinkies, and ho hos, and those little things you dip in coffee.
Have you seen my Everything 80’s Vintage Blogapalooza? Oh, wait, I told everyone not to tell you about it. Carry on, my wayward friend, carry on…
I think lately I’ve found that I am very impatient and I don’t wait long enough after hitting the submit button before leaving a page and then my comment disappears. Must work on that. Grr!
LOL about the kid outgrowing his resemblance to Tom Cruise. Poor kid. And I’m with Michelle. Little Debbie is easy to crush on.
I love Iko Iko!!! I’d forgotten all about that one.
And I think I speak for everyone when I say: Please put up a YouTube video of (you performing) I Didn’t Pass Calculus.
Thank you.
I LOVE THE 80s!
