Blast from the Past: Mix Tape B4
Continuing “80’s Week” or whatever. Anyway, continuing from yesterday’s Blast from the Past, today I present Mix Tape B4. As always, I try to find official videos where possible and link to those.
Only two duplicates today, so Pete and Teeni have less reason to complain. Of course, it’s still vintage 80’s, which will set Michelle off…
And, fresh on the heels of Teeni’s comment yesterday, guess who the first song is by…

Feel free to share your memories of any of these songs in the comments.
*You might enjoy the Gregorian version too.
**Sorry, these aren’t available on YouTube. But, take my word for it, they’re pretty cool. I have them on the world’s first square CD!

So now I have to ask you what you were doing when you listened to these. I like a lot of the same songs as you but I never watched Dr. Who so those are lost on me. I always wanted to start watching but it seemed like an ongoing soap opera and I didn’t know when to jump in. Then weren’t there more than one Dr. Who’s? It started to get crazy and I just never did end up watching.
Doctor Who is just the title of the show. The character is known only as the Doctor. But, there have been plenty of lines of dialogue where they’ll say something like “Doctor who?” And, they’ve had more creative ways of doing it too. For example, his companion Ace used to refer to him as Professor. Once, she said, “Professor? Doctor, who are you?” So, they’ve done stuff like that. But the character is known only as the Doctor. He has used the alias of Doctor John Smith on occasional, but that’s not really his name.
With the original series, you can generally jump in at any time. Well, it depends on how they air it. It was originally half hour episodes then at some point they went to hour episodes. A single story might span 4 or more episodes. So, in those cases, obviously you want to start watching at the beginning of a story. Some stations, such as my local PBS station, would air an entire story in one night. Saturday night’s were typically Doctor Who night. It’d start at 10:00 and run until midnight or longer. But, that way you got to see the whole story.
With the new series, the stories are generally an hour and standalone, but there have been some 2 and 3 parters. But, you really want to jump in at the start of a season, because the new series has made use of season-long story arcs. So, there’s generally a little something in each episode that will slowly build to the finale. This past season, they used stuff from the previous three seasons as well. So, that was pretty cool.
There’s only one Doctor, but he has different incarnations. You see, if he dies, he can regenerate. He can regenerate 12 times, so there would be a total of 13 different Doctors. Same character, different incarnations. Each has a different personality.
You could, of course, start with the first episode.
Debbie Gibson? I’m concerned. I hope you don’t still listen to this. Wilburys? Very good, makes up for the “Seeds of Love” selection, especially when combined with the Beatles.
Actually, I really don’t listen to any music anymore.
