It's obvious you've really thought this through, and your advice is well worth heeding. Personally, I've had a bit of trouble keeping up with the "watering" of my blog over the past few months. Life can get so busy at times that it's so easy to go for quite a while between postings and then try to make up for it later. I find most people stop at step 3 and forget to water their blog.
