August 2008 Earnings Report

Okay, it’s time for the August 2008 earnings report. First, let’s summarize the guesses:

No guess from Pete this month, but maybe that’s because he had some idea because we eMailed about it a little.

For the purposes of this report, I am counting only gross earnings. Also, I am counting money earned in August, not necessarily paid in August. As any of you running affiliate programs or ads already know, with many things you don’t actually get paid until you reach a certain payment threshold. So, you might earn eighteen cents per month, but you’ll never see a penny of it until you’ve accumulated $10, $25, $100 or whatever the minimum payout might be.

Okay, drumroll please….

June 2008: $16.71
July 2008: $95.76
August 2008: $593.80

That looks good, but the bulk of that came in the first half of the month. So, I was initially very optimistic for the month, but the second half of the month was largely dead. So, at the moment, the prospects of having another increase in September are looking rather grim.

It is also important to diversify. In July, I had 6 different programs from which to earn money. The largest earners last month were among the smallest in August. In August, I had 7 different ways of earning money online, one of which accounted for the bulk of July’s income.

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket! If you want to make money online, you need to find ways to diversify your revenue sources. Don’t just rely on AdSense or one affiliate program! Sure, you may read about some people that have made big bucks with just one source, but most people are using more than one. If you’re using one source, what happens if they go out of business, lower their payouts, or drop their program?

Who deserves the awe and respect of their blogging peers for guessing closest to the amount? Teeni was closest without going over. Well, no one went over, but Teeni was still the closest in any case.

Holy crap!! When you said don’t go over, I thought you’d be in the $200 dollar range.

What did you start stealing candy from kids and mugging people?

Talk about an earnings jump :)

Next month should be really interesting!

Two bucks? I don’t know who you sent your second dollar to, but it wasn’t me! Besides, don’t you want your special viral story meme? It’s just you and Pete, so it’s going to be really special!
