I’d Like to Introduce You to My Church

In retrospect, I suppose maybe it was supposed to be a little ol’ schoolhouse but, for whatever reason, it always struck me as a church. Thus, I gave it stained glass windows. Okay, the windows are just red, but that was my only option at the time I put this together.
The more I think about it, the more I’m beginning to realize it was supposed to be a schoolhouse. Painted in schoolhouse red, this little building would certainly look the part.
Oh, well. It’s a church now!
I did this several years ago. You can see the damage on the top as well as on part of the roof, from where it suffered a fall from a bookshelf once.
This was a pre-made wooden building that you can buy at a craft store and paint it your own way. The bottom of the structure has a hole for a light to be inserted. On the side, you can see a little slot where a cord could run out.
I removed one wall. I had to do so very carefully, as these are glued together fairly well. I needed to get the wall off so I could glue the “windows” on the inside. All the windows are is a colored transparency–the kind you’d run through a copy machine normally. I just cut one down to size and glued inside. I did not glue the wall back in. It slides into place fairly well, and I wanted to have access in case I wanted to add anything else on the inside.
The steps are painted in a grey color to simulate concrete. I went with a purple color for the walls, which I thought was appropriate for a church. If I had been thinking schoolhouse, it would be red.
The roof was done with a special crackling paint. First, you paint the roof a light color, or whatever color it is you want to show through. In this case, I think it was a light gray. Then, you paint over it with the darker color. I don’t remember if that’s the layer that crackles or if you have to add something additional. Anyway, the effect you see on the roof is what you get, which, I think, makes it resemble shingles. Or at least an old roof.
Anyway, it’s a good idea to take a break now and then from the things you normally do, and do something a little different. Something that can take your mind off other things and let you relax a bit.
So, there you go. Welcome to my church!

The key to anything is usually for the front door. Church is always open!
I think doing ANYTHING relaxing is a “must” every now and a gain. again
Halloween used to be somewhat of a hobby of mine. I usually started around late summer putting stuff together: making fake hands and painting them, making faces and painting them, making fake tombstones and painting them…
I guess this church was something a little different from that.
I really like your little church! I totally agree with you that you should always have something totally different you can switch to for a little while. It really does give your brain a chance to switch gears and solve problems without hurting your brain. I like how you did your stained glass windows. That would have been something I’d do too with the transparency paper.
Thanks!
If I had a color copier back then, I may have used a clear transparency and printed something on it to be more like stained glass windows.
But, just a single color will do in a pinch. I think I may have had a choice of yellow or red. Or maybe not. Maybe I would have mixed them up if I could have used two colors.
I’ve come for my Sunday school lesson Pastor Dan! What will this week’s sermon be about?
Liberty and free will.
