The Wonderful World of Dandelions

Lots of people like a well-manicured lawn, like the image above. Nothing but neatly trimmed green blades of grass as far as the eye can see. Just green. Nothin’ but green.
Some people spend their time mowing and fertilizing and feeding and watering and mowing some more. All to get that golf course look. Some even mow it a certain way, so it looks like a baseball outfield. Some even go through the yard, pinpointing offending plants and spraying, flaming or plucking them out.
All to achieve the monotonous green.
As for me, I like a lawn spotted with dandelions. It adds a nice splash of color. Plus, dandelions are pretty low maintenance. People spend more time and money trying to kill them then you ever need to do to cultivate them!

And, when you’re not spending time and money trying to kill everything except the “holy blades of green,” you might end up with other splashes of color, like this:

With people making cutbacks in this economy, maybe it’s time to cut back on weed killers and such, and learn to appreciate color! Think of dandelions as little patches of sunshine throughout your yard. Who doesn’t appreciate sunshine?

I wish my neighbors would all read this, that way I didn’t get those frowns when they walk from their perfectly manicured yards past my poor lawn that has a spot of yellow here and there. Alittle color is nice!

“As for me, I like a lawn spotted with dandelions.” So do I. I think they are PRETTY.
I paint them … and sometimes use them as a test to see if “someone” likes butter.
I like the bright color of dandelions as well, but I don’t like them in the middle of my lawn - only certain places. The problem with them is that they take over. But the little purple flowers - wild violets, aren’t they? Those are very pretty and I like when they spring up from the cracks in the walkways and stairways.
I vote this post as my favorite of all time!!!!!
I love dandelions, they were all over our yard when I was growing up in CT. My pops didn’t use pesticides on the lawn we kids had to play in the grass, why risk killing the kids along with the dandalions. Plus, our mom would have us pick the dandelion greens and she would, you guessed it, cook them up for dinner. Talk about your living off the land.
sometimes I wish I had my own lawn now, but then I snap out of it….
