Buying the Past’s Future: Part I
This is what arrived in the mail yesterday:

What is it?
Well, it is a Battlestar Galactica Hasbro Titanium Series 4 Diecast Mini Cylon Raider [Classic].
I’ve wanted one of these since I was a kid. My parents took me shopping, or, more likely, they went shopping and dragged me along. Anyway, we went down the toy aisle, and there were two things I wanted, but I could only pick one. I wanted both! I guess you can figure out which one I didn’t pick…
I suppose that sometimes you remember, and still want, those things you couldn’t have. So, ever since then, I’ve wanted a Cylon Raider. Of course, nowadays, those “classics” sell for big bucks, especially if you want them in good, like-new or new-in-box condition.
So, I was buying some stuff I needed and I came across this miniature. That’s nice because it is (mostly) what I wanted, and it’s a miniature which is a plus because it won’t take up a lot of room and it’s pretty low-cost as well which is a definite bonus these days. Sure, I probably shouldn’t have bought it, but the 30-year desire to own a Cylon raider culminated in that moment.
Of course, someday, perhaps when I’m rich, I may come across the actual model I longed for oh so many years ago, new-in-box, and I will grab that one up too.
Until then, I have this little guy.

Aw, that’s cool. There are toys from my past I would love to own today: specifically Barbie’s Carousel Kitchen, Lite Brite, Thingmaker, and Spirograph. Spirograph and Lite Brite are easy to find, but the other two not so much. The Thingmaker is on ebay for about $100 and I can’t find the Barbie Kitchen anywhere. Sigh. Nostalgia. It’s a good thing.
My cousins had a Lite Brite. I think one of my friends in grade school had a Thingmaker, or at least one of its various incarnations. I think I had (and probably still have in a box somewhere) a Spirograph. I should hunt it down sometime, make some spirographs and post them.
You know, you can’t even find pictures of Barbie’s Carousel Kitchen online! Time to hit garage sales? I’ve found discussions around them but only one person seems to still own one (as of 2006). I’m thinking if you can find a stockload of those somewhere, you may have a small fortune on your hands.
There’s things I still want too- but everyone knows that cause I advertise it on my blog hoping someone will just give me the stuff. HA - so far the mission has failed.
I think my new get-rich-quick-scheme involves finding Barbie’s Carousel Kitchens cheap at a garage sales somewhere, then selling them for like $10k a pop or something. I’ll sell one to JD at half-price. LOL! Or, if I get a truckload of the things, and they do sell for $10k, maybe I’ll just give her one.
Oh, and, no, people don’t give bloggers stuff these days. Unless you have thousands of readers and companies send you stuff so you’ll take a picture of it and post it.
Barbie’s Carousel Kitchens ??
I been there
