eBook Status: Done

eBook Back Cover

At long last, the eBook is done!

There is one page to do, but, for all intents and purposes, the book is done. Table of Content-ized, indexed, linked, hyperlinked and proofread.

Sorry! All you get to see in the photo is the back cover right now!

Now, I just need to wrap up some odds and ends, write some promotional copy, get the website up and running, put it up for sale, and hope people will buy it.

This is the longest thing I think that I have ever written.

Some times, I have had questions come up and go online searching for an answer, then I realize the answer’s in my eBook! It’s been so long, sometimes you forget what you’ve written.

I started working on it in mid-February. In early April, I had my first draft, and started sending it out to people to look at. There was a period of about a month where I did very little work on it as I waited to hear from people (which I never did). So, sometime in May (I think) I started working on it again, and really kicked it into high gear in late June. Since then, the size of the book has more than doubled from those early drafts I sent out. Now, I feel comfortable about releasing the book. With the early drafts, I still felt stuff was missing, that it wasn’t enough. However, now I think that I have a quality book on my hands that will be really good for beginners and people just getting started.

So, I’ve spent about five and half months putting this book together, though it’s really just over four months if you discount the time period where I wasn’t doing much with it. I’ve also learned some things that will (hopefully!) make the next book go faster. I also spent a fair amount of time working on details that perhaps readers may never notice, but I think it makes it look and work better than it otherwise would.

At any rate, now it’s time to go to bed and get some rest so I can get back to work in the morning. Of course, now there is a heavy weight lifted, because the book itself is done!

Thanks!

As for how quickly an eBook can be done, it really depends on how much research you need to do and how in-depth you need to go.

One thing that took a lot of time was putting together lists. I have lists of websites for different uses. So, the first thing I did was compile the lists. Anytime I would hear of a site that would fit, I would throw it on my list. Then, after getting those lists compiled, I would sort them and remove all the duplicates. Next, I checked every site. I had to make sure it was still active and that it fit into the appropriate category. Some were dead. Others had changed focus. Some didn’t fit in any category. I suspect some people throw their own site links in lists without regard for what the list was for just so they could get traffic! So, those had to be removed. A few were even suspected malware sites, so I removed those from my lists too. I also kicked out sites that didn’t load quickly enough.

All in all, I’m guessing I must have visited 1,000 websites or thereabouts. It’s hard to tell. I didn’t keep count.

And, then, just this past week, I changed the name of the book. ;)

Oh, and the length also partly determines how long it will take you. A typical eBook is anywhere from 5,000 to 30,000 words in length. I’ve seen some as large as 50,000 or so words. Mine is larger. My table of contents is the page length of some eBooks I’ve seen. ;)
