Obstacles on the Way to Leaving Facebook
So, yesterday, I tried to leave Facebook.
I went in there and I scrolled down to the bottom of whatever page the option is on, and clicked the “deactivate” button.
Then there’s the annoying questionnaire on why you want to leave Facebook. “Facebook sucks” wasn’t an option.
But, I have fan pages and, apparently, you cannot deactivate your account without deleting your fan pages or turning them over to someone else. Well, since I don’t want to turn them over to someone else, and I don’t want to delete them (lest someone else end up getting them), I ultimately could not deactivate my Facebook account.
Why not just have the fan pages deactivate along with the account? Who knows.
So, apparently, I’m stuck with an account there.
Facebook is kind of like a roach motel, I guess. Once you get in, you cannot get out.

I go back and forth between leaving Facebook. I have to admit though I post less and less personal stuff and just check out what my friends are up to or play Bejeweled Blitz. I no longer “farm” or “farkle” and I don’t send hearts or hugs or mug people or whatever else those stupid applications want.
Lately I get kind of turned off by being there because of seeing people fight on their walls or post really wacky off the wall stuff. Like recently found out someone I know is somewhat delusional and really into conspiracy theory videos on youtube. It’s either drugs or the person is mental… I am not sure why people think it is okay to fly their freak flag online???
Another thing I think is crappy is when people complain about their significant others or siblings on there. I think people should keep their personal drama and complaints to themselves.
I see what’s going on and, usually, it’s not much. On top of that, I’ve sent messages to people there and never heard a peep back, so it’s like what use is it? Even as bad as DMs have become on Twitter, people seem more likely to reply to a direct message on Twitter than a private message on Facebook.
I only posted the one conspiracy video!!! LOL. Seriously, though, I do know of one guy–not on Facebook–but on his blog, and WHOA! I mean, I read some of the conspiracy theory stuff, but some people are way, way out there. Way out there. Way far out there.
Or on their blogs and such. It’s bad enough when they complain to all their friends, but, online, do they realize how many people see that?
