Sunday the First

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

You know what that means, right?

It means there is a Friday the Thirteenth.

Whenever the first day of the month falls on a Sunday, the thirteenth of the month will fall on a Friday.

Some people are scared of the day, but why don’t we make a thing of it?

For example, every time we have a Friday the Thirteenth, why not have a mini-Halloween? Dress up in costumes, watch a scary movie, open the haunted houses, etc.

Could be fun.

Why do we have to be so linear about our special days?

I mean, we have Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents’ Day, etc. Valentine’s Day for lovers. There’s a Secretary’s Day (or Administrative Professional’s Day, or whatever politically-correct term they are using nowadays) and so on. Why have special days for all those? Why not appreciate people in our lives every day?

Setting aside certain days may have seemed to be a good idea at the time, but now it often seems that they are celebrated out of obligation to the holiday and not necessarily of true appreciation for the people.

Why wait until a certain day on the calendar to give or do something to show someone you appreciate them? Why not do it now? Life is short. Don’t be a slave to a calendar date!
