So, apparently, spammers have been having a “SpamFest” on some of my older blogs I haven’t updated in a while.

For several months, it appears, some of them have managed to get their comments posted on those older blogs. I never check the blogs, because I had the comments set such that a comment would not be posted unless the person had a previously approved comment.

So, how these spammers got through, I have no idea.

At any rate, those blogs were filled with spam. So, I spent several hours Sunday night cleaning up the mess. I deleted all spam comments on those blogs, both approved and unapproved.

I also tightened up the security so that ALL comments are moderated. Hopefully, that will keep them out. A couple spammers have tried to post comments since I made the changes, but no comments have been automatically approved so it looks like it may be working.

Some of these spammers may now be surprised to find that some of their backlinks–achieved through successfully getting a spam comment on those blogs–are now gone.
