Play a Game!

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

You may recall from a post earlier this year that I was making simple little games over on Sploder.

Well, here is my latest game: Simplicity Hunter.

Yeah. I spend a lot of time coming up with these titles. LOL.

Anyway, go give it a whirl and have fun. Create an account first if you want to be listed in the high scores. I just did it in 2:25 but I wasn’t logged in so I’m not listed at that time.

But, I am going to log in and try again.

With my luck, however, usually I’m unable to beat the best time I get when not logged in.

Such is life.

But, we will see!

Happy Halloween!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Happy Halloween!

Didn’t have many Trick or Treaters this year. I think it was under a dozen. Not many houses on our street have the lights on, so I think our neighborhood largely gets passed over.

Hope yours was happy and safe!

More Obama-McCain Fun

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

McCain gets hip to the groove at the White House. Too bad he forgot his pants.

Obama at the beach. This is what happens when a team of consultants aren’t around to dress him.

Found by way of Joel Comm, author of AdSense Secrets 4.0, by way of Twitter.

What Adults Did for Fun Before the Internet

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

No doubt, this question has plagued people for decades. Well, maybe one decade. Anyway, what did adults do for fun way back when? Well, they played games that today would seem rather lame. Then again, that might explain why older generations were able to do math without calculators.

Here’s an example adult game from Games for All Occasions published in 1909:

BUZZ

This is a very old game, but is always a very great favorite. The more the players, the greater the fun. The way to play it is as follows. The players sit in a circle and begin to count in turn, but when the number 7 or any number in which the figure 7 or any multiple of 7 is reached, they say “Buzz,” instead of whatever the number may be. As, for instance, supposing the players have counted up to 12, the next player will say “13,” the next “Buzz,” because 14 is a multiple of 7 (twice 7)–the next player would then say “15,” the next “16,” and the next would of course say “Buzz” because the figure 7 occurs in the number 17. If one of the players forgets to say “Buzz” at the proper time, he is out. The game then starts over again with the remaining players, and so it continues until there is but one person remaining. If great care is taken the numbers can be counted up to 70, which, according to the rules before mentioned, would of course be called Buzz. The numbers would then be carried on as Buzz 1, Buzz 2, &c., up to 79, but it is very seldom that this stage is reached.

Wow! Nothing like coming home after a hard day’s work and settling in for a great game of Buzz, eh?

No doubt, at some point, and I’m thinking right after Prohibition ended (heck, this may have been the catalyst for ending Prohibition), this probably is what mutated into the drinking game “Bizz Buzz.” I’m thinking that a few rounds of “Buzz” would be sufficient to drive the most alcohol-abstinent of people to drink.

Freaky Links

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

First up, before we take care of the Freaky Links, let me just mention that Peter enjoyed my article on “How to Make $1,000,000 Blogging.” He said that “It’s an awesome read and pretty funny through out the entire piece.” Well, that gets him a mention and a linkback. Thanks Peter!

Okay, now onto the Freaky Links!

  1. This past week, Rolando did a short series on the “Dangers of Blogging.” Today, I find a site that asks what you would like as your last meal. Your final meal. The last meal you would eat before you die. Freaky. If you do choose to answer on the site, beware of anyone offering you that meal at any point in the future. If your spouse offers you that meal, run. If your waiter suggests it, especially if it’s something not offered at the restaurant you’re in, run. Me, I think I’ll just abstain from answering the question.
  2. Teach your brain to stretch time. You too can achieve time travel within your own lifetime…
  3. How to cook a baby. From the same site that wants to know your request for your final meal. Soylent green is people!
  4. Hold onto something. Chris Bloczynski linked to me, and I’m linking back to his post linking to me, which I think could cause the Internet to implode. That, naturally, reminds me of this, which I feel compelled to link to at every opportunity.

Oh, and Robert Henru–the guy who robbed me of victory in Chris Bloczynski’s linking contest–linked back to me too. I guess he’s feeling guilty or something. Anyway, he enjoyed a quote that I have on my About page. So, at the risk of breaking the Internet, I’ll give him a linkback too.

  5. Did you know that Playboy magazine is available in Braille? Guess who pays for that? That’s right. Your tax dollars at work. (In the U.S., anyway.)
  6. If you like pulling pranks on your friends, and have a lot of time on your hands, you might want to try this light bulb prank. Better hurry before these bulbs are no longer available. They were banned, you know. And you wouldn’t want to do this with one of those dangerous CFLs!
  7. Nasty parasites. Pete, you probably don’t want to look at these.
  8. Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories. I mentioned this the other day, but it deserves another link. Make a Cylon jack o’lantern. You’ve only got 275 days left!
  9. You can always tell it’s a slow news day when you can see something like this. I think I learned that in high school Physics, but that was many moons ago.
  10. Brilliant 3D Illusion! It’s easy to figure it out, but you might have to watch it a second time to see what he’s really doing.
  11. Of course, no one does it better than Penn & Teller.
  12. Finally, not everyone is good with computers.

“Spore”

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

I don’t buy a lot of video or computer games. In fact, I cannot remember the last time I bought one. I don’t think I’ve bought one in this century! (Unless you count the little joystick game system that has some of the old arcade games on it. I guess that means I haven’t bought a new game in this century!)

But, “Spore” is a game that may change that, especially since, reportedly, it will also be released for the Mac.

I first learned about “Spore” courtesy of Doug, who has been looking forward to it for a long time. It’s number 13 on his list, and you’ll see two video links where you can learn more.

It looks like fun, and something more challenging and interesting than the typical “shoot everything that moves” game. Hopefully, it will finally be released this year, and not be too expensive.
